class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-648" title="Jd Moya" src="http://pegasusii.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/0008-e1314987063725-150x150.jpg?9d7bd4" alt="JD blog pictue" width="150" height="150" /></a>(Are we headed to the same fate as the fax or corded phone?)</p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>Don’t dismiss this question too quickly.</em>  I want you to think about this because the insurance selling landscape has changed dramatically.  The changes have come about because the consumer has changed…and he has access to information at the touch of his fingers through cell, tablet or laptop…and he hides behind caller ID and makes it difficult to get to him/her.  The consumer wants everything NOW, not 5 minutes ago and they are used to getting it.  If the agent can’t provide it and provide it RIGHT NOW then his sales life span has been shortened considerably.   So does this mean we (agents) are all dead?</p><p>Some articles may make you think so.  I remember 5 years ago the prediction that the internet would take the place of the agent.  And in some respects it has but maybe more so in the P&amp;C world than in the Life and Annuity world.  The dire predictions that the agent would lose out to the internet for life insurance simply did not happen and will not as long (as) insurance agents provide customer value and support … whether it be finding the lowest premiums or the right company to fit the customer health situation or in customer support in servicing the clients various requests or the back-office support to properly manage claims (especially death claims).</p><p>For upper income individuals whose needs may involve several different types of coverage (term, permanent, Retirement Life, 2<sup>nd</sup> to Die) and there is a need to shop the different coverages to different carriers traditional agents play a vital role.</p><p><strong><em>More Good News – It seems that we, agents, are needed</em></strong></p><p>Independent insurance agents continue to process the bulk of life sales.  Insurance companies still see the vast majority of their sales coming through the traditional agency channel.  The internet and the banks so far have not made strong gains in the life arena.<strong><em>  </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>The Internet?</em></strong></p><p>In today&#8217;s insurance landscape, there is no mistake that online and traditional sales are increasingly intertwined. Agents are using online sites to find the best deals for clients. Many agents have online quoting sites that enable them to help their clients with premium or coverage questions. And companies are now encouraging their agents to fill out and send applications through their online application tools. Pegasus is working mainly with companies today that have e-application platforms because of the realization that this is the future.<strong><em><br
/> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>Insurance Agent  Website – How important is it?</em></strong></p><p>A website is a must, in my opinion, for every agent; not just a chosen few if only for the credibility issue.  Think of it; many consumers want to know their prospective agent and they will google them.  If they find a website it adds credibility; if they don’t find a website the agent is at a disadvantage.  Why fight it?  A one page website is relatively inexpensive and, at Pegasus, we allow those agents with websites to hook themselves up with us to provide filler and articles that his prospects and clients may find useful. <em>    </em><em></em></p><p><strong><em>Agents handy in emergencies </em></strong><em></em></p><p>Although do-it-yourself quoting and selling sites are out there and buying sometimes works fine for simple term life, more complicated situations and the unpredictability of health issues  make dealing with an actual agent critical.  Just imagine an unexpected death:  Who do you call for that…the internet?  Imagine the widow wondering how much their spouse had at that terrible moment?  The agent is critical and a relief for all families in these situations.  But even for those deaths that are anticipated such as terminal death issues that give the person time to plan, they call their agent and plan!  People want to talk to somebody in times like these.<strong><em><br
/> </em></strong></p><h2><span
style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><em>What does Pegasus II offer?</em></strong></span></h2><p><strong><em>Pegasus Insurance International, LLC</em></strong><strong><em>,</em></strong> an IMO company, offers online and offline help for agents with quotes, sales situations, concepts, companies, and the “I’ve got a guy” situation where agents need to know how to quote a prospect before actually submitting the case.  Pegasus believes the agent needs the online presence as well as knowledgeable personnel the agent can rely on.  In other words, the agent in today’s world needs both.<strong><em><br
/> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>Online sales tools will help consumers evaluate premiums, not evaluate their insurance needs</em></strong>.</p><p>No one can replace the agent yet on these matters.  Online tools are useful but the other side of the equation is there are an equal number of instances where those quoting and asking for application tools aren&#8217;t sufficient.  Insurance consumers want to have the option of online browsing because they&#8217;re used to it in their consumer lives. (new and old)</p><p>1<strong>. Find the right IMO organization.</strong>  If you&#8217;re independent, join a strong IMO to funnel all your business through. For example, we represent 40+  insurance carriers (everything but P&amp;C and Health Insurance) and a Medicare Advantage/Medicare Supplement channel. All production from all channels goes to Trips, Conventions, etc.<br
/> 2. <strong>Set your income goals.</strong> These goals should be obtainable, but specific to your market and products that you sell.<br
/> 3. <strong>Find 1-3 Niche Markets to specialize in based on the economy and market demands</strong>. For example, Retirement Planning market, Final Expense Market, Mortgage Cancellation Market, Teachers Market, Government Market, etc.  In other words, for an agent to be successful in this niche markets, you must be able to identify problems and provide solutions to these prospects. Training is very important, so having the right support system is very important!<br
/> 4. <strong>You need to work proven systems for your success.</strong> If you&#8217;re new to the business, then you probably don&#8217;t have a proven system yet.  Again, the importance of a good IMO behind you.  We offer Lead Generation Systems in different markets such as: Final Expense, Mortgage Protection,  Retirement Planning, and Federal Employees.<br
/> 5. <strong>Work smart!</strong> Time is money. Work the plan and don&#8217;t let the plan work you. It will come with time.<br
/> 6. <strong>Invest in your money. </strong>Be in the Insurance and Financial Services Industry is very inexpensive to start compared to many other businesses. As an Independent Agent marketing is the key besides good prospecting.
